Calle Ocho Leeds is 8 years old this November!!!

The north’s biggest multi-room salsa/bachata/kizomba party is celebrating on Saturday 10th November at The Faversham Leeds with one of our favourite UK salsa dance teachers/DJs making his annual appearance at our party. Talking about Mauricio Reyes of Birmingham’s Latin Motion brand. We also have the welcome return of one of the hottest kizomba/afrobeats DJs in the UK right now….DJ Fabio FS. They’re joining our allstar resident DJ team for another milestone in our history – celebrating 8 years of great salsa/afrobeats/bachata parties.

We launched back in mid-August 2010 with the aim of doing 2 big multi-room parties at The Faversham in Leeds in August and September whilst the students were away (it was a heavily attended student venue at the time). We had 3 rooms – salsa/kizomba/urban latin – and 6 DJs, all local, no superstars – and we expected to maybe get a few hundred people in the holiday period. The opening night had 457 people and the September one 440 and so we decided to carry on. The rest, is as they say, history. Now 8 years later, we’re still here, still relevant and still busy (we rarely dip below 400 even 8 years on). Other parties/events/promoters come and go but we’re still here. We must be doing something right 🙂

This 8th birthday party, we have the usual three rooms with early doors salsa classes and the party from 10pm-4.30am.

Salsa Room :
8.00pm-10.00pm : early doors salsa/bachata classes with one of the UK’s top salsa personalities of the last 20 years….the one and only Mauricio Reyes. Originally from Guatemala, based in Birmingham since his early teens, Mauricio formed and runs the nationally acclaimed company Latin Motion. Whether teaching salsa/bachata dance classes, DJing at salsa congresses or clubs or hosting the UK’s biggest salsa dance events (Motion City/Latin Motion), you are guaranteed 100% quality from him. Tonight, 2 classes. One bachata, one cross body salsa on1, both intermediates level. Classes start promptly 8pm so get there early as they are always packed.

10.00pm-4.00am : we party in our salsa room with our resident DJ team of Lubi, Fabio Bahia and Dr Salsa (George Donoghue) who are joined by guest DJ Mauricio Reyes for 6 hours of non-stop salsa old and new plus mambo, son Cubano, cha cha cha and a touch of timba and merengue.

Bachata Room :
11.00pm-03.00am : our small but always popular bachata room is hosted by the bachata queen DJ Jane Salsaldi from Manchester’s Salsaldi Events plus resident DJ at Revolucion De Cuba sites in Manchester, Liverpool, Leeds and Nottingham. Known for her knowledge of all bachata music styles – Dominican, moderna, classic, sensual – she is often the first call for bachata rooms across the UK. Joining her are resident Calle Ocho DJs Fabio Bahia and MrB.

Kizomba/Afrobeats Room :
11.00pm-04.30am : our man Sean Wilson aka DJ Britanico is back from his summer residency at the kizomba clubs in Lisbon. New haircut and beard trim plus new kizomba/afrobeats music, great to have him back. Special guest DJ is the ever popular ex-London/now Leeds but popular across the UK selector Fabio FS. He smashed it at his Calle Ocho debut last year and again at our 100% afrobeats Lusofonica party in June. Great to have him back on the decks alongside DJ Britanico.
