LA MAXIMA 79 – FIRST TIME EVER IN THE UK – LIVE AT THE WARDROBE LEEDS SATURDAY 27TH JANUARY 2018

Calle Ocho Leeds, in conjunction with the Scottish Salsa Congress, are proud to present live for the very first time in the UK, one of Europe’s top international salsa bands……LA MAXIMA 79!

Direct from Italy, they fly in for just TWO exclusive UK debut dates. Friday 26th January at the Scottish Salsa Congress in Edinburgh (The Hilton, Haymarket) and then Saturday 27th January, their first ever show in England at The Wardrobe Leeds for Calle Ocho.

La Maxima 79 join a huge list of great international salsa bands and artists to have played Leeds in the last two decades for promoters Lubi Jovanovic and Fabio Bahiai including Eddie Palmieri, Jimmy Bosch, Wayne Gorbea, Issac Delgado, Tito Allen, Alfredo de le Fe, Ricardo Lemvo, Manolito y su Trabuco, Johhny Polanco, La-33, Herman Olivera, La Excelencia, Croma Latina and Tromboranaga.

La Maxima 79 is the brainchild of Italian international salsa DJ Fabrizio Zorro who is also the band’s leader, bongo player and producer. As a salsa congress DJ who loves salsa clasica, mambo and guaguanco from the 60s and 70s, he wanted to put together a contemporary band that would play that style and have that sound.

Their first tracks were premiered on the www.salsa.it compilations in 2011 and in 2013, they released their debut album “Regresando Al Guaguanco” to great acclaim. The tracks were loved by DJs and dancers worldwide, especially dance floor hits like “Pobrecita” and “No Sirvo Pa’Queso”. Tough and kicking salsa and the perfect tempo for dancers, something Fabrizio has made his mission with this band.

In 2016, after their mambo/pachanga/cumbia single “La Gripe” (“The Flu”) went crazy worldwide with salsa dancers and especially in Cali Colombia, they released their second album “Joseito”. More great dance floor hits including guaguancos “Nunca Muere El Guaguanco” and “Te Quedaste Sola”, the charanga of “Kun Kin”, and a Cuban son changuii called “Deja Eso”. Originally just a studio project with a producer and session musicians, they started gigging live in 2014 and by 2016, they have one of the top live salsa bands in Europe.

This night will be dedicated to great music for dancing from both the live band and from us DJs (Lubi, Fabio and special guest DJ from Bristol’s Abanico Salsa parties, Angus Peters). No salsa dance classes. No salsa dance shows. Just music and dancing from start to finish. Bring a change of clothes (or 3) as it will be hot and fuel up on Red Bull. This one will be special.
