RE:SOUL 2ND BIRTHDAY

RE:SOUL, everyone’s favourite jazz/hip-hop/neo-soul jam session each month at Hirst’s Yard, is TWO YEARS OLD in May!

We are throwing a huge birthday party as well as an end of term party for all our regular jammers/musicians finishing exams this same week. We have an enlarged 9 piece RE:SOUL Allstars band with added brass plus TWO special guests bands/artists and a host of special guests sitting in with the house band.

We’re taking over Belgrave Music Hall for this party as the first birthday party had over 150 people trying to get into Hirst’s Yard and at least 50 were stuck outside while the bands played. So, with that in mind, we’ve gone for a bigger space and bigger stage plus bigger soundsystem – Belgrave Music Hall was the perfect choice.

Our guest featured bands/artists for this session are the big and firing global beats/jazz combo NECKTR, who sit musically somewhere between Haitus Kaiyote and Snarky Puppy wih a dose of Brazilian beats and afrobeat in the mix. Opening act is one of Leeds’ favourite and best soul/neo-soul singers VANESSA JAMIE and her superb band. Onstage times are Vanessa 8.30pm and NECKTR 9.30pm.

The RE:SOUL Allstars take to the stage at around 10.30pm featuring residents musicians Jonny Faull – sax (host/MD), Martin Longhawn – keys (MD), KONL – guitar, Alex Robinson – bass and Timmy C – drums. They’ll be joined by 2 extra brass players as they back a host of our favourite guests over the last few years including singers Alice Higgins, Gracie Convert, Jermaine Peterson, Lara Rose and Vanessa Jamie. More still to be confirmed as are the MCs and instrumental guests. The band will perform original and covers material.

As always, our host and resident DJ is DJ Lubi of Soul Rebels fame. On the decks before, between and after live sets playing the platters that matter. Strictly RE:SOUL sounds of the past, present and future – Glasper, Erykah Badu, Jill Scott, Roy Ayers, Thundercat, D’Angelo, J Dilla, Tribe Called Quest, Roy Hargrove, Q-Tip, Jose James, Takuya Kuroda, Fela…just good music.

Doors 8pm. Live music from 8,30pm. Curfew is 1.30am.

As we’ve moved to Belgrave Music Hall plus featuring two guest bands and an enlarged RE:SOUL band, we are charging a small cover charge to cover all band, venue and promotion expenses. It will be just £4 advance (more on the door).

Plus tickets will be available from some of the artists from Friday 25th March. We will announce when they have paper tickets. Just 250 tickets for this one so don’t sleep on it as it will be huge.
