RE:SOUL SESSION 021

WE’RE BACK!

It’s been a long time since the last one (4 months actually) but RE:SOUL Sessions return on a monthly basis at a new venue from Monday 25th September.

Leeds’ favourite and longstanding jazz/hip-hop/neo-soul showcase and jam relaunches for the new season at The Wardrobe Bar, the ground floor space of the famous Leeds live music venue. This place has been a centre of live jazz, hip-hop, soul, funk and world/roots music since it opened in 1999 and for the last 5 years, it has been the home of Soul Rebels events, hosted by our own DJ Lubi and one of the sessions that inspired RE:SOUL to launch.

Since 80% of our crowd are Leeds College Of Music students it also makes sense to move to a building next door to this great musical institution.

Same format as before – 1st set is a live showcase for new and udnerground Leeds bands and artists. Second set is the jam with the houseband and guests. Host and resident DJ Lubi from Soul Rebels/KMAH Radio keeps it all linked with cool music before, between and after the live sets.

Same music policy as before – we love jazz, hip-hop, deep soul, neo-soul, jazz-funk, afrobeat and Brazilian/Latin beats.

Same timings – 8pm doors, 9pm showcase, 10.30pm jam session, curfew 12.30am.

Same door policy – free entry! We will be delivering the usual top class live music with no door charge. Plus the venue have great drinks promos on Mondays.

Same house band as always. Three original band members since day one are still here – Jonny Faull (MD and alto sax), Martin Longhawn (keys) and Tim Carter (drums) – and our longtime bassist last 18 months Alex Robinson. We’ll be announcing new musicians soon.

Re-launch night, our featured band for the showcase are SLOW LORRIS, jam session regular and drummer Theo Goss’s jazzy hip-hop crew. More info on them soon. Onstage 9pm.

The jam session usually kicks off between 10.15pm and 10.30pm. List of tracks available from the house band will be posted in this event and also on our Facebook page. Or PM us here if you want to perform a specific track. We are pretty open about music selection but within the musical spectrum we love – contemporary jazz/hip-hop, neo-soul etc. Get on it now as there’s only 3 weeks before the night.
