Second Soul Rebels Sessions party of 2018 is another Leeds young lions showcase plus once again, a special guest MC from Sheffield. Continuing to bring the finest live jazz, soul, funk, hip-hop and global beats together under one roof since 2012.

Headline band Necktr are now well established on the Leeds jazz/funk/soul scene after some high profile shows at Belgrave Music Hall last year including the Soul Rebels Sessions Christmas Party and RE:SOUL 2nd Birthday Party . Another kicking band to emerge from the very vibrant Leeds College Of Music scene and also affiliated to the Tight Lines collective, they blend jazz, hip-hop, Latin music, afrobeat and funk into their own unique sound made for partying or listening. Starting to make an impact outside Leeds with gigs in Sheffield/Manchester/London recently, they drop their debut EP in April 2018. Definitely ones to watch in 2018.

Support comes from Sheffied based but Jamaican born MC/rapper Franz Von, the MC with the city’s internationally acclaimed Afro-fusionists K.O.G. & The Zongo Brigade who smashed the Soul Rebels Sessions Christmas Party last December. For his solo project, he features live hip hop, jungle, drum & bass fusion rooted in African rhythms and expressions with a band featuring local hero musicians from Mansion Of Snakes and Tetes De Pois.

Opening band Mystic Brew are made up of musicians from Tetes De Pois and Necktr and play the original fusion jazz/jazz-funk music which inspired golden era hip-hop artists of the 90s such as A Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul and Gang Starr. The music of Blue Note artists Ronnie Foster, Donald Byrd and Grant Green. Come and get some instrumental funk-jazz goodness with hip-hop attitude to warm you up for Necktr and Franz Von.

DJs on the night are resident Soul Rebels selectors Lubi & Chris Welch (Soundwave/Sounds Like This) dropping all the right tunes but not necessarily in the right order! Big funk, jazz, soul, reggae, hip-hop, Latin, Brazilian and boogie bangers to keep the night moving along nice and sweet.
