CALLE OCHO LEEDS 9TH BIRTHDAY

Unbelievable but true……Calle Ocho Leeds is 9 years old this October!!!

The north’s longest running multi-room salsa/bachata/kizomba party is celebrating it’s 9th birthday on Saturday 26th October at The Faversham Leeds with one of our favourite UK Cuban salsa dance teachers plus the “bachata boy wonder” teaching for the first time for us. They’re joining our all-star resident DJ team for another milestone in our history – celebrating 9 years of great salsa/kizomba/bachata parties in the north of England.

We launched back in mid-August 2010 with the aim of doing a few multi-room parties at The Faversham in Leeds in August and September whilst the students were away (it was a heavily attended student venue at the time). The opening night had 500 people in and the rest is history. Now 9 years later, we’re still here, still relevant and still busy (we rarely dip below 400 even 9 years on). Other parties/events/promoters come and go but we’re still here so must be doing something right 🙂

This 9th birthday party, we have the usual three rooms with early doors salsa/bachata dance classes and the party from 10pm-4.00am.

Salsa Room (main room) :
8.00pm-10.00pm : It’s been a while since we had some Cuban dance classes at Calle Ocho Leeds so for this 9th birthday we have invited one of the UK’s top Cuban salsa personalities of the last 20 years to join us….the one and only Yersin Rivas from Newcastle. Originally from Havana and based in Newcastle for the last 10 years, he’s an international dance teacher and performer as well as one of the best known Cuban DJs in the UK. For the last 12 months he’s been the resident DJ/promoter/dance teacher at Revolucion De Cuba Newcastle as well as continuing to guest across the UK at the finest salsa parties.

Tonight Yersin is teaching TWO intermediates Cuban dance classes :
8.00-9.00pm – Son Cubano : the Cuban roots of all salsa dance styles and without it, there would be no salsa music or salsa dance
9.00-10.00pm – Salsa Cubana : the modern version of Cuban dance that evolved from it’s son Cubano roots

Classes start bang on time so please be there 5 minutes before they begin to change into dance shoes.

10.00pm-4.00am : we party in our salsa room with our resident DJ team of Lubi, Fabio Bahia and Dr Salsa (George Donoghue) for 6 hours of non-stop salsa old and new plus mambo, son Cubano, cha cha cha and a touch of timba and merengue.

Bachata Room (middle room) :
10.30pm-03.00am : our small but always popular bachata room is hosted by the “bachata boy wonder” DJ Shahid Afzal from Manchester’s Bailemos Bachata dance school. Now established as a popular bachata DJ across the UK and knowledgeable about all bachata music styles – Dominican, moderna, classic, sensual – Shahid keeps the party rocking all night long. And this time, HE’S TEACHING A BACHATA CLASS EARLY DOORS 🙂

09.00-10.00pm : bachata moderna class with Shahid in the conservatory. The last time he taught in Leeds at Revolucion De Cuba he was a huge success. Come down and warm-up for the party with a special class from the young bachata ninja.

Kizomba/Afrobeats Room :
11.00pm-04.00am : our man Sean Wilson aka DJ Britanico, is back from his summer holidays in Portugal guaranteeing the latest kizomba/semba/kuduru/afrobeats sounds straight from Lisbon to Calle Ocho Leeds.
