DJ Lubi closes another busy autumn season of live shows with his annual Soul Rebels Xmas Party at The Wardrobe Leeds. This year, the seventh since Soul Rebels began, there’s the usual great mix of jazz, soul, global beats, hip-hop and funk music.
Headliners Project Hilts are the young 9 piece band from Leeds bringing together the sounds of jazz, hip-hop, neo-soul and grime into one unique musical fusion. Led by London grime MC/producer Hilts, they’ve already rocked venues around Leeds, sold out Hyde Park Book Club as well as playing in London, Sheffield and Liverpool. Their debut single “Lonely Day” dropped over the summer.
Support act is Suéli Gil, the Portuguese singer based in Leeds who has totally captivated the local world music scene with her fusion of Brazilian music and Angolan/Cape Verdean sounds. With a great band of young Leeds musicians, they rocked the big Vamos Leeds Festival this summer in Millennium Square. New single coming soon.
Openers Book are a trio at Leeds College Of Music making some of the most exciting contemporary jazz around. Great musicianship, original music and super tight ensemble playing, they’re definitely ones to watch for 2020.
