Songs From Our Latin Soul – The Best of Grupo X

Loft Recordings – release date 8th July 2016 – CD and Download

UK Latin soul/jazz band Grupo X are celebrating 15 years since their debut album “X-Posure” was launched by releasing a compilation of some of their finest tracks from their impressive back catalogue. This album brings together a mix of sun-kissed Latin beats plus soul with a touch of jazz, a melting pot of soaring vocals, driving percussion, heavy horns, tight arrangements and virtuoso performances all round. The perfect summer soundtrack for all the year round.

Remastered dance floor fillers such as Brand New Love, X-Perience and Reach, combine with chilled, head-nodding grooves, including Jonny’s Bugalu, Get Through To You and Won’t You Stay. Also included are two brand new tracks featuring long time lead vocalist Lisa Millett – the Latin R’n’B stomper Share it Out plus the soulful, salsa-tinged Waiting.

Formed in London in 1997 by trombonist/composer/arranger, Jonny Enright, Grupo X’s blend of salsa, soul and jazz was a refreshing and original new take on Latin music. With an allstar line-up featuring some of London’s finest musicians and vocalists, they gained a reputation for killer live gigs, under their own name and as the first call backing band for visiting international artists. They have worked with Mr Bongo” Jack Costanzo, US vibes jazz legend Dave Pike, West Coast US percussionists Bobby Matos and Johnny Blas, Cuban pianist and Joe Cuba sideman Alfredo Rodriguez, NYC salsa star Jimmy Sabater (Fania Records), boss salsa trombonist Jimmy Bosch, and finally the undisputed “King of Latin Soul”, Joe Bataan.

Grupo X have to date released 4 albums: X-Posure (2001), Food For Your Latin Soul (2006), Grupo X Remixed (2008) and As Hills Go By (2011). For more info about these releases and the band, go to their website www.grupo-x.com
