We’re back! RE:SOUL Sessions 024 hits The Wardrobe Bar in Leeds on Monday 26th February 2018.
A slightly longer break than we normally have for Christmas but on Monday 26th February, RE:SOUL returns to the Wardrobe Bar for the first event of 2018. As we approach our third birthday in May, we look forward to featuring more new artists and invite new faces to come sit in with our excellent house band.
So, what’s cooking? Well, we have the same timings (8pm-late), same format (showcase set first from guest bands then the jam session), same door policy (free entry), same host/resident DJ (Lubi from Soul Rebels Sessions), same music policy (jazz/soul/hip-hop/funk), BUT we have some new house band members.
Original house band members Jonny Faull (alto sax/RE:SOUL founder) and Tim Carter (drums) had to say goodbye at the start of the year after two and a half years due to heavy workload and family commitments. Big respect to both of them for making this night what it is today.
We welcome onboard two new house band musicians. On tenor sax, Harry Fowler from Tetes De Pois/Mystic Brew and on drums, Theo Goss from Freese Trio/Slow Lorris. Both are well known within our Leeds jazz/soul/hip-hop music community and are excellent musicians and longtime supporters of the jam session. They join bass player Malik Morgan Murphy from The Sugar Rays plus original house band member since day one and MD, keyboard maestro Martin Longhorn, another well know face on the Leeds jazz scene.
Our guest band for the first showcase slot of 2018 is the Jasmine Whalley Quintet. Jasmine is of course the second horn player alongside Harry Fowler in the excellent Tetes De Pois, holding down both alto and baritone sax in that group. Her own band fuses jazz and hip-hop and have started gigging recently so get down early and catch them at the start of their musical journey.
Doors 8pm, Jasmine Whalley Quintet 9pm, RE:SOUL jam session 10pm, curfew midnight, entry is free. Selective drinks promos on the night. Good past, present and future sounds of jazz, hip-hop, funk, soul and global beats from DJ Lubi all night long.
We’ll post the songs for the jam in the next 7-10 days in this Facebook event and on our Facebook page once the house band have sorted a set out and then we’ll do the call-out for jammers. For now, click going, invite some like-minded souls to come, share the event, mark the date in your diary and see you there. Leeds’ original jazz/soul/hip-hop fusion live jam is back and it feels good 🙂
