At last, it’s finally here!

Leeds’ newest weekly midweek salsa/Latin party launches on Tuesday 3rd of November at the soon-to-open Cuban themed restaurant/bar/club Revolucion De Cuba Leeds on Call Lane (it’s on the old Baracoa site). The venue is part of the Revolucion De Cuba national brand and opens to the public with a big launch party on Friday 30th October.

Four days later, “SALSA SOCIAL” launches on Tuesday 3rd November and will then run EVERY Tuesday. It will be in the UPSTAIRS nightclub space, which has been totally transformed since it’s Baracoa days with totally new decor, wooden dancefloor, beautiful 1950s vintage Havana style bar and fantastic sound system. Photos coming soon.

Host/promoter and resident DJ is Leeds’ original salsa daddy DJ Lubi (Lubi Jovanovic), now passing 30 years of running salsa nights in the city and DJing salsa/Cuban/Latin music across the UK and the globe. Full biography at www.djlubi.com The Calle Ocho/Viva La Musica co-promoter has been running Revolucion De Cuba Manchester’s weekly Wednesday night “Salsa Social” since 2012 and three years on, it’s still hitting 200+ people every night.

Resident weekly dance teacher will be Philip Charles, one of the region’s best and much respected salsa dancers and teachers. He is also an excellent salsa DJ and plays congas in the Leeds salsa band Orquesta Leodis. He started dancing salsa in early 2008, 7 years ago, and started teaching in 2010 and has run his own salsa classes in Bradford and Leeds since then, hosted his own nights (including My Salsa My Soul Bradford and Manteca Leeds), and guested at many major salsa event over the past 5 years up and down the country, both as dance teacher and DJ. It’s good to have him onboard every Tuesday.

Special guest DJ for this launch party will be Manchester’s finest Jane Salsaldi. She has hosted her own Salsaldi parties in Manchester since 2009 and is one of the monthly resident DJs at “Salsa Social” at Revolucion De Cuba in the city. She also guests across the UK at top salsa parties and is making her salsa congress debut at the Scottish Salsa Congress 2016. A very good DJ who covers all bases for all dancers.

FORMAT OF THE NIGHT :

6.30pm to 9pm every Tuesday, there will be salsa dance classes

6.30pm-7pm : Philip will take a weekly absolute beginners FREE taster salsa class for those wanting to dip their toes in for the first time

7pm-8pm : Philip will take a weekly beginners salsa dance class (just £3 per person)

8pm-9pm : a guest dance teacher different salsa/Latin genres will take an improvers/intermediates class – CBL salsa on1, Cuban salsa, Cali/Colombian salsa, la rueda, bachata (Dominican & sensual), cha cha cha, salsaton, salsa on2 (just £3 per person)

For the launch party, Philip Charles is taking all 3 classes but from Tuesday 10th November, weekly guest teaches will begin to teach the 8pm improver classes. So far booked are Julien Bueve, Mo Targh (Mo T – Manchester), Dr Salsa (George Donoghue) and Emmanuela Lafrate. More to be announced shortly.

9pm-2am : FREE ENTRY SALSA/LATIN CLUBNIGHT with DJ Lubi and guest DJs playing salsa all-styles (old and new), mambo, timba, son Cubano, bachata, boogaloo, cha cha cha and for the last 90 minutes, mixing in more Latin party sounds (merengue electronico, Cubaton, salsaton, reggaeton) for the Latino/Spanish.international student crowd/late night party people.

The format has worked very well in Manchester where the salsa dancers tend to come out early for the classes and the social at 9pm, but leave around 12.30am. By midnight, the Latino/Spanish/international student crowd have arrived and they stay until 2am and spend a lot on the bar, which makes the venue happy and keeps the door entry free. In Manchester, the “2 sittings” and changing music policy as the night progresses have worked amazingly well and so that template will also be used in Leeds.

So that’s it. “SALSA SOCIAL” is finally launching at the new Revolucion De Cuba in Leeds in Call Lane on Tuesday 3rd November. Spread the word about this great new weekly salsa/Latin party and fantastic new venue and try and get down for the launch party.

See you there 🙂
