After last autumn’s sold out show in Leeds at Brudenell Social Club, DJ Lubi Promotions/Soul Rebels Leeds are proud to present the “bare knuckle soul” singer/songwriter/producer THABO (Thabo Mkwananzi) and his band once again in the city this autumn.

The date is Saturday 25th November and this time the venue is Belgrave Music Hall. Tickets are on-sale now.

For those in our region, Thabo needs no introduction. We’ve been loving him, his band and his music since he started back in 2011. For those who are new to him, here’s a brief biography.

Thabo first broke through as an artist singing with a local Yorkshire hip-hop band in the late 2000s before embarking on his own solo career in 2011 with his three piece band The Real Deal. The same three musicians from day one are still with him today. Keyboard wizard/pianist Aron Kyne, guitarist Emmanuel Allert and percussionist/drummer Ali Mac. From 2011 to 2015, Thabo & The Real Deal released a couple of self-produced independent EPs and gigged a lot across the whole of the UK. From high profile support slots to headline shows, they soon built up a large following across the country with their unique and refreshing style of stripped down acoustic soul.

In 2017, after a year away from live shows, THABO came back to the stage strong. Still only a four piece but the beats and sound were so much bigger/heavier with the additon of full drumkit, synth bass and electronics/effects. A whole set of new amazing songs to alongside some old favourites re-imagined. Coming off the back of a busy summer of festival appearancs, THABO embarks on the autumn 2017 tour and as always, makes sure Leeds is on the itinerary. Whether you are an original fan or new to the music of THABO, this night of “bare knuckle soul” will knock you out.

Support comes from a rising start of UK soul, singer/songwriter Vanessa Jamie and her band. Vanessa is originally from London but moved to Leeds aged 18 to study at Leeds College Of Music. Now in her final year, she has already won many fans in the city with her original music inspired by the contemporary soul greats such as Erykah Badu and Jill Scott. More than just neo-soul, Vanessa’s music also features elements of jazz, hip-hop and gospel. She’s already played several time at the legendary London Jazz Club Ronnie Scott’s and she’s only just turned 21! One to watch for the future so get down early to catch her and the band.
