CALLE OCHO LEEDS SUMMER PARTY

It’s been a while since our last party so we are glad to announce our Calle Ocho Leeds Summer Party at The Faversham on Saturday 13th July. It’s a reunion of some Leeds/Yorkshire/North Of England salsa pioneers – The Three Amigos : Lubi Jovanovic, Fabio Bahia and special guest Nicolai Vigneswaren.

Since 1986 to the present day, these three were major pioneers/leaders in the Leeds salsa scene and also in the wider northern salsa scene. Lubi launched it all in the mid-1980s with his weekly Club Afro Latino night at Ricky’s in Leeds (1986), joined in the early 1990s by Nicolai and mid 1990s by Fabio. Over a period of 30 years, they put Leeds firmly on the UK salsa map with their own events and collaborations together and have managed to do so as friends. No Game Of Thrones style salsa wars ever. Hence the nickname The Three Amigos 🙂

Around 2011 they started started doing one-off reunion DJ parties under the banner of The Three Amigos. Always good fun, great music and dancing but without the formality of some salsa events and busy with the full spectrum of dancers attending (all levels and all styles). It’s been a few years since the last one so it’s nice to have them back together and also maestro Nicolai back in Leeds first time in 3 years for a very rare salsa visit.

Here’s the rundown :

ROOM 1 : SALSA ROOM

8.00pm-10.00pm : 2 x salsa dance classes with original Leeds salsa dance master Nicolai Vigneswaren – improvers & intermediates salsa crossbody on1.

10.00pm-4.00am : salsa party with Calle Ocho resident DJs Lubi, Fabio Bahia and Dr Salsa (George Donoghue) joined by guest DJ Nicolai Vigneswaren playing salsa all styles (clasica, moderna, Cuban, Puerto Rican, Colombian, dura/hard, romantica) plus mambo, timba, cha cha cha, merengue and after 1am, plenty of bachata.

ROOM 2 : KIZOMBA
Resident DJ Sean “El Britanico” Wilson (Kizomba Manchester) is joined in the Conservatory by Manchester afrobeats king DJ Mr Juu. From 11pm to 2.00am, a mix of kizomba, tarraxinha, ghetto zouk, semba and retro zouk. Due to the noise complaints of the local residents, at 2.00am, DJ Mr Juu will move to the middle room for the final 2 hour afrohouse/afrobeats mash-up while Sean keeps the mellow kizomba/semba vibes going in the Conservatory.

ROOM 3 : BACHATA x REGGAETON/BAILE FUNK X AFROHOUSE/AFROBEATS
The middle room this time is a real mash-up changing genres as the night goes on. Something for everyone. From 11pm-12.30am, we’ll have DJs Lubi and Fabio Bahia playing strictly bachata in there and then moving bachata into the main room. At 12.30am-2.00am, DJ Fabio Bahia will switch to reggaeton/Brazilian beats/baile funk for the party people followed at 2.00am by DJ Mr Juu adding afrohouse/kuduru/dancehall to the baile funk and reggaeton. It’s gonna be a hot one!

No advance tickets. Just pay on the door. Please take note of the last entrance time. Also finish is 4am. We have to be strict on this due to recent noise complaints to the council from residents in the area.
