Five DJ Lubi contemporary soul/disco/hip-hop/electronic beats tracks for May 2016….

Five tracks on continuous rotation right now for me are these. A nice May pre-summer selection of soulful electronic beats, leftfield hip-hop, underground disco, spoken word and old school sounding reggae. Big names (Quantic, U-Roy, Alice Russell), getting bigger names all the time (Los Charly’s Orchestra, Nubiyan Twist), some Leeds boys (Paper Tiger) and a future star of electronic music (Dulahli). You can catch them all and other great music I love on my radio show “DJ Lubi Presents Soul Rebels” on www.kmah-radio.com 12.00-14.00 live every 4th Monday monthly.

Los Charly’s Orchestra feat Andre Espuet – Sunshine (deep disco version) (Imagenes)

Venezuelan producer/musician Jorge Montiel digging deep with another killer Salsoul Records type deep disco bouncer. He really captures that mid 70s soulful Latin disco feel so perfectly on this and recent previous LCO releases. This is the deep house meets deep disco mix with a great trumpet solo up in there.

Nubiyan Twist – “Crocodile” (Wormfood Records)

Born in Leeds 2011, based in London/Oxfordshire now, this 12 piece collective of musical geniuses bring together neo-soul, hip-hop, reggae, jazz and afrobeat. New 2016 EP “Siren Song” has another great mix of styles too….afrobeat, jazz, hip-hop, ska and this lovely neo-soul meets spoken word gem.

Quantic featuring U-Roy & Alice Russell – “A Life Worth Living” (Tru Thoughts)

Quantic is like some musical Midas….everything he makes turns to gold, be it deep funk, cumbia, hip-hop, jazz, soul and in this case, classic reggae. Longtime label mate Alice Russell does the great lovers rock style female reggae vocal here and special guest is none other than Jamaican reggae legend U-Roy. One for the summer this one.

Paper Tiger feat Chester Watson – “Origami Sessions” (Wah Wah 45s)

Big up my Leeds boys Paper Tiger drop their second album “Blast Off”, once again for Wah Wah 45s, and it’s kicking blend of electronic beats, live instrumentation, leftfield hip-hop, broken beats, post dubstep sounds and a quirky sense of humour only Yorkshire lads could weave into this modern bass heavy music. Great guest MCs including Chester Watson on this headnodder. Album out 27th May 2

Machine – Dulahli feat Bea Fletcher (promo)

Another Leeds based artist coming up last 12 months, Dulahli is 22 year old Anthony Phelan, electronic music beat making wizard and producer who knows his cool music history inside out due to his mum’s record collection (jazz, soul, funk, reggae, disco) and this shows in this haunting slow hip-hop/electronic soul groover with it’s mad synth attack at the end. Watch out for this guy next 12 months. Big things coming.
